Four Leaf Clover Jellyfish

Jellyfish , mysterious and fascinating organisms, are 90% made of water and have a parachute-shaped body and a series of stinging tentacles of varying length and shape. The Four Leaf Clover Jellyfish is a cosmopolitan jellyfish very common in the Mediterranean. It has a soft, gelatinous, cup-shaped umbrella, the edge of which appears frayed due to the presence of numerous and short hollow tentacles. Easily recognizable by the particular four-leaf clover design in the bell, this jellyfish can reach 40 cm in diameter. Generally it feeds on small organisms caught with stinging tentacles .

Cassiopeia andromeda, the jellyfish of the mangroves

A Cassiopeia Andromeda, perhaps more for that ancient divine punishment, was taken off the only defense system jellyfish and today is located in the sandy bottom of the deep sea to wander silent without being able to defend. All this for the ancient vice of vanity . To tell the truth, seeing it resting on the sandy bottom is not as beautiful as it claims to be but if only it will be diverted from laziness and offered the possibility of floating in mid-water then you will have a taste of its splendor and we will see the vain Cassiopeia as beautiful as it is superb.

Reproduction

Fertilization in jellyfish occurs inside dimples, present on the oral arms. In these temporary incubation chambers, both fertilization and egg development take place up to the planula stage. After a short period of life carried by the currents, the planula fixes on the bottom and evolves into a polypoid larva called scifistoma. In particular periods of the year, under the influence of hormonal and environmental factors, the scifistoma produces young jellyfish thanks to a division process called strobilazione: the development of new jellyfish occurs thanks to the release of immature jellyfish (efire), which with the passing some time they will turn into adult jellyfish.
